Many North American Indigenous languages are Latin-based, but contain a few accents or characters that are not supported by most Latin fonts.
The team at Partners and Hawes got in touch with me about adding language support for the Nisg̱a’a Nation. They had chosen ABC Ginto Nord to use in a project promoting Nisg̱a’a tourism but needed to be able to support the Nisg̱a’a language on the website and in promotional materials.
Nisg̱a’a contains some characters that are not included in the usual set for Latin-based languages – for example, the g in Nisg̱a’a should have a line below, which is not supported in most fonts. If you view this site in a font other than my intended font, Stornoway, the line below like won't be there. We contacted the designer of the original typeface and they agreed to let me create a custom version of Ginto Nord for this project.
